You belong here. You cleared the exams, handled the paperwork, and said goodbye to everyone you love to chase something bigger. That takes courage, and not everyone has it.

The first few months are the hardest. It gets easier. Every international student thriving in the US today once felt exactly like you do.

You don’t have to do it alone. Talk to seniors, join student groups, ask questions. People are more willing to help than you think.

Start small, start early. A few things you can do right now: � Build a simple one-page US-style resume � Set up your LinkedIn profile properly � Connect with alumni from your university � Learn how CPT and OPT work, and plan ahead

Your OPT may feel far away today. But students who prepare early feel confident later.

3 resume mistakes that cost F1/OPT candidates interviews 📄

I review many resumes from Indian students and graduates in the US. The same three mistakes keep showing up, and they’re easy to fix.

1. Writing a resume the Indian way, not the US way ❌ Photos, date of birth, marital status, a long “Objective” paragraph and a 3-page CV all work against you. US recruiters expect a clean 1-page resume (2 pages only with significant experience), focused on skills and impact.

2. Listing duties instead of results ❌ “Responsible for testing and bug fixing” tells me nothing. Compare that with “Reduced bug backlog by 35% by automating regression tests in Selenium.” Numbers, tools and outcomes are what get a recruiter to call you back.

3. Not tailoring it to the job description ❌ Most US companies use ATS software that scans for keywords. If the job asks for “Python, AWS and SQL” and your resume says none of them, a human may never see it. Mirror the role's language (honestly) before you hit apply.

Bonus tip: Don’t let visa details confuse recruiters. A simple line such as “Authorised to work in the US on F1 OPT / STEM OPT” in your summary saves everyone time.
